WarpSearch vs SearchStax Managed Search
Managed Apache Solr clusters, billed per cluster and annually. A cluster costs the same whether it serves one query or a million. WarpSearch is serverless and bills per GB and per request.
Looking for a SearchStax alternative, or for managed Solr without paying for a cluster? WarpSearch answers the Solr HTTP API, so SolrJ, pysolr and your existing queries connect with a new endpoint. There is no cluster to size, and every paid account gets a 99.9% uptime SLA from $10 a month. Below is what SearchStax costs next to WarpSearch.

How they bill
| WarpSearch | SearchStax | |
|---|---|---|
| Billing unit | Per GB stored, per GB written, per request | Per cluster, billed annually |
| Entry price | $10 a month minimum, all of it usage credit | $367 a month (Development cluster, annual) |
| Uptime SLA | 99.9% on every paid account, from $10 | None on Development; 99.9% from Core at $2,499 a month |
| Idle cost | Storage only | The full cluster, around the clock |
| Capacity planning | None. No nodes, shards or replicas | Pick a cluster size; grow by buying a larger plan |
| Vector and hybrid search | On every plan, same price per request | Depends on the Solr version and configuration |
| APIs | Solr, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, SQL and PPL | Solr |
| Clouds | AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or your own account | Chosen per cluster |
What SearchStax cannot do, or does only in part: Billed per cluster, annually. The Development plan has no uptime SLA; 99.9% starts on Core at $2,499 a month. Index size and query capacity follow the cluster you buy, so growth means a bigger plan. Solr API only.

Measured October 2026 through our Elasticsearch-compatible API, warm cache, client in the same region, single runs. Every test ran on deliberately minimal hardware, 2 to 4 CPUs (a 4 CPU container or an AWS i8g.large with 2 vCPUs), so these are the least favorable results we can produce. More hardware only improves them. Numbers exclude internet round trips.

Questions
How much does SearchStax cost?
SearchStax Managed Search lists a Development cluster from $367 a month, Core from $2,499 and Enterprise from $6,250, all billed annually. Development has no uptime SLA. Core carries 99.9% and Enterprise 99.95%. WarpSearch starts at $10 a month, with a 99.9% SLA on every paid account.
Is there a serverless alternative to SearchStax?
Yes. WarpSearch is serverless search that answers the Solr API. There are no nodes or clusters: you pay per GB stored, per GB written and per request, and an idle collection costs only its storage. Point SolrJ or pysolr at https://api.warpsearch.io/compat/solr and send an API key.
What does a 99.9% uptime SLA cost on SearchStax?
On SearchStax Managed Search the first plan with an uptime SLA is Core, from $2,499 a month billed annually. On WarpSearch every paid account has a 99.9% uptime SLA, starting at the $10 monthly minimum.
Can I keep my Solr queries?
Yes. WarpSearch runs the standard, dismax and edismax parsers, filter queries, function queries, classic and JSON faceting, stats and grouping, and returns Solr-shaped JSON or javabin. See Solr compatibility.
Does WarpSearch do vector and hybrid search over Solr data?
Yes. Dense vectors, filtered k-NN and hybrid keyword plus vector search work on every plan, in the same collection as your text fields, at the same $2 per million requests. See Hybrid search.
